Coleman Senn: Well being a car design student, trust me.. the designers always co! me up with cool stuff. However Ford executives say no to this and yes to that. When a car doesn't sell, they are stuck with the tooling which costs billions. So the only option is to make another new car, but with the same tooling and chassis. The best they can do is change the outer shell of the car. But the proportions will be the same from a previous model. It's simple business, but if a car doesn't sell... they have to make do with the expensive tooling and machinery spend. It's like a catch 22. GM is having problems too with that. Small cars... well ford is always the last to follow a trend, but in general most people would probably rather buy a used car than a Ka. Who knows. I can't stand small cars, but I hate big SUV's too. I'm 6' 2'' so small cars are crampy for a guy like me. Plus people in general want SUV's for safety and trucks to haul the toys and dirt bikes.I think the reason the Ka sells in Europe is that cars are probably more expensive out there. Plus peop! le are not as materialistic about cars as we are, so we have to have co! ol cars. Most Americans will go to great lengths to own a cool car for the image. It's what we grew up on. I was in Australia this past month and most people drive basic Toyota Corolla's and Civic's. Cars out there are more expensive, so people just buy the minimum to get form point A to point B. Ford is just in trouble, and I will never buy a car form them. The only American car I will buy is a Jeep Wrangler. To sum it up, it's executive politics. Be careful what you ask for!
