Sharie Sommerville: Well, for $1100 you could fix your car and it'll be nice again. For $1100 you have to hunt to find a DECENT car that'll last you maybe two years. Just fix the car. I mean, you just put a new transmission in it- it's fresh! you may need a couple repairs as well.... Once cars reach about 10 years old, they need a couple thousand dollars to bring them up to snuff again. Then, generally, they're good to go for at least another five years.
Stanton Valdivia: keep the car ........VW will last 200k easy, even though I think they are junk mechanically (good non turbo motors though)shop around at least 3 mechanics, sometimes leaks in evap systems can be as simple as replacing pcv valve boots, a new vent etc or other parts that usually cost under 100 ...if its throwing a check engine light write the code down and research it yourself, but the parts yourself and pay labor to replace buying another car will cost you for the car itself, plates , sales! tax, new insurance etc etc...proabably not worth it.
