Is it possible to send an email/message to a cell phone number?

Elmo Tervo: There is a difference between an text message by email (some people refer to this as SMS) and MMS (Mobile Media) sending photos or other messages to a cell phone. In order to send a successful message to a cell phone you would need the "email or memail (medial email)" address. Prior to 2003 when LNP (local Number Portablity) started it was fairly easy to do this. You could just check the area code and prefix and determine the carier. Now that you can simply switch cell phone providders (this is called porting, hence LNP) and move your cell phone number to any carrier so those rules no longer apply. Many of the mergers have also affected carrier codes. There are a few free tools you can use online to check to see what the orginal carrier was and try sending an email message or you can use many of the free text message tools online to send the text for you without using your cell phone. For a small fee, you can also check to see who the actual carrier is in real-t! ime. If the number has been ported or moved to a different service provider that information would need to be purchased as you can't get that for free....Show more

Adan Alipio: yes, depending on your plan you might get charged. i know for verizon it is the phone number followed by a @vtext.com. Other carriers have different domains but I'm almost positive you can send emails to cell phones as text messages like this.found this resource for other carriers http://sms411.net/how-to-send-email-to-a-phone/...Show more
