Lavelle Viveiros: hmm...when i got my wisdom teeth out i had to pay 100$ per x ray ! can you believe that?
Marvel Mcaulay: I see some good things--more acceptance of "alternative" medicine such as acupuncture, massage, herbal remedies for things such as pain. At the U of Az Med School they have a program, and have had for several years, in "Integrative Medicine" which educates doctors about these things. Dr. Weil who runs it notes that if you have appendicitis, you need surgery and antibiotics, but if you've got a chronic pain condition, acupuncture, dietary changes, exercise, breathing exercises, etc. are probably of more value. I don't think too many would disagree now but there were plenty who would when the program started.I see a lot of diseases/conditions of affluence--obesity, smoking, drug usage, etc. It's ironic that people then spend a fortune to try to combat those.I see some horrible things that have been going on for some time. HIV/AIDS is a "PC" issue ! instead of a health issue--something so easily combatted by NO IV drug usage and no anal sex--and yet the billions that is spent on it and the outrage if one notes how difficult it is to get the disease (very small number of cases where people did not engage in high-risk behavior). There has been a certain "politicization" of breast cancer as well and when that goes head-to-head with ANOTHER "political" issue--abortion--it's interesting how the cards are played. It's a big no-no to tell women of the link between abortion and breast cancer (http://www.jewishworldreview.com/1107/me...The last thing we need in medicine is for it to be co-opted by agenda wielders, but it's clearly happening. Another great example of that is Gardasil--which some would like to make mandatory yet which has some serious questions raised about its safety to date(http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/arti... Again, HPV is largely an STD (http://www.labtestsonline.org/understand... and by definition not! having numerous sexual partners greatly reduces the risk of c! ontracting it so a simple prevention is rejected for political reasons. We also witness a breakdown in common sense. Because of government meddling and the refusal of the government to enforce contract or antitrust law against the handful of large insurance companies that dominate and control the practice of medicine in the country, health care costs are outrageous. This results in another politically-created problem which has caused people to become flat-out foolish claiming there are only two choices (so false) in dealing with the situation: UHC (Universal Health Care) or maintaining the present unjust system which in no way resembles a free market. People become absolutely hysterical on the subject of HOW to deliver health care instead of HOW to ATTAIN RATIONAL GOALS. If you know the facts and recognize UHC doesn't work people want to scream you lack compassion and must have your own insurance AND money so you're safe even when that is NOT the truth at all. They don't wan! t to look at the problem calmly--it's a sound bite mentality. So though our scientists have done remarkable things and made many impressive advances with more to come in the near future, those who couldn't cut it to even get into medical school want to run the show with their political agendas. They constantly drive a wedge between the doctor-patient relationship when the doctors are NOT the problem--it's the interlopers. So I fear for our country's health as emotions, not sense, dominate....Show more

Dorinda Metzer: Its pathetic when governments cannot just give health care to the people of there home land and the world. Its sad when human lives suffer over the greed of money and power.
