Why is it so Expensive to live a "greener" life? What do you do if you want to live greener but can't?!?!

Alvaro Oare: I ask the same question.

Kenneth Thuesen: when you hear "go green" it is people talking about not wasting. natural produce will certainly help the environment but as you said it is much more expensiveI did a report on going green in the home and it really is not that expensive... Email me and I can send you the report.(Hobo_Joe99@Yahoo.com)Easy things like Changing the head on our shower will not only give you a high pressure shower but also save thousands of gallons of water... and in turn save you moneyYou can get newspaper insulation- not only does it recycle old paper but also works 30-60% better than the normal insulation in your house... and once again it will save you money in the long runIf you were to put in a sun roof in some rooms, you would barley need lights and you get all natural sun light, and at night looking at the stars is nice.Simple things like these can help you and the environment in the long runHope I helped~Hobo...Show more

Shaquita Wernicki: going green can and should be cheaper. it is not about replacing all your current things with new things (that is actually the opposite of green, it is consumerism). But when you do have to replace say your car or windows on your house it pays to go green. Even though the initial expense may be more over the long run you will save money in energy savings. With organic foods never buy processed foods, they are very expensive be they organic or conventional, and they do not have a lot of nutrition. Buy whole foods in bulk and do the cooking/processing yourself. This will save you money and is better for you so should save you doctor's visits. for huge savings go to the farmers markets in your area (http://www.localharvest.org to find a market in your area) and buy food in bulk and can/freeze/dry it yourself and than you will eat local healthy food all winter. this involves a lot of time and work on your part and if you have never put food by before the ex! pense of getting the canning equipment and a freezer. but over! the long haul this investment will more than pay for itself.Conserve by turning up the AC and turning down the heat. dry your clothes outside on a clothes line (this is a huge savings in gas/electric and better for your clothing as they will fade less and last longer)Walk if the trip is under a mile. Bike if it is under 5 milesBuy things used. Goodwill, Am Vets, auctions (not eBay but real auctions) Yard sales, FreeCycle (http://www.freecycle.org), etc are all excellent places to get good things cheap/free.You can clean just about all surfaces using baking soda and vinegar. This combo is better than most very expensive natural and chemical cleaners. Know that most non-green cleaners are very very toxic and should be avoided.Grow your own food. It is a lot of work but you will eat the best food you have ever had. organic gardening can be very expensive if you fall into the green washing hype and start buying lots of things for the garden. most organic pest control can be ma! de at home as can compost, the best fertilizer there is.You can afford a greener way of life once you realize to go green is to go cheap....Show more

Shandi Wedge: The technology is so new, that's why it's expensive. There are always little ways to live a greener life. Check around online.

Teodoro Lamond: Living greener is cheaper if you know how to do it right. The internet contains hundreds of recipes that allow you to make your own Earth-friendly cleaners for less cost..

Valentine Michaud: You make a good point. I surely cannot afford to live "greener". You have to do what your wallet can afford. No point going broke over it. And as far as food is concerned, it's really sad a box of Little Debbie snack cakes are cheaper than one freakin' apple!
